Sender limits

This page is also in the Courier wiki: https://github.com/rsjsoftwareltd/courier/wiki/Sender-limits

Courier has two kinds of account. Administrators can send to any computers or people and are never limited. Senders send only to the audiences an administrator gives them, see only their own history, and can be limited in two ways: school-wide, and one by one.

What has been tried. The school-wide limits have been in use since the sender role was added. Limits for each sender are new in 0.5.9 and are tested, but have not yet been used in a real school.

School-wide: Message Settings -> Sending #

Administrators are never asked to confirm and are never limited.

One sender at a time: General Settings -> Users #

Each sender has a Limits button. It sets:

A number here replaces the school-wide number for that person, higher or lower. Blank is never zero: to stop someone sending, disable the account instead. The Users list shows each sender's limits, for example "5 a day, 40 per notice", or "No limit of their own".

When both a school-wide daily limit and a personal one apply, the stricter of the two wins. A notice over the personal maximum is refused before anything is sent.

What a sender sees #

On New notice, a sender sees their own limits. If they reach a limit, Courier says which one, in plain words, and what to do: choose a smaller audience, try again tomorrow, or ask an administrator.

What is recorded #

Anything a sender is refused for a limit is written to General Settings -> Activity, as is each change an administrator makes to the sending limits or to a sender's limits.
